The cold, lack of sunshine and outside stressors tend make me feel a bit tired, and sometimes all I need is some yoga and real food to get my energy levels back up! As my husband and I recently moved, we have been on the go non stop, and it's at times like these that we need to care of ourselves (and of eachother!) even more. I used to be a really big fan of cleanses — particularly juice cleanses, until I realized that they really dont do much for me except give my digestive system a mini break. My husband has always been really against me doing them as I eat so healthy to begin with. As I recently cut out sugar from my diet, I came to a conclusion that eating wholesome foods without anything processed is the way to go. It’s all about clean eating in my eyes. When Hippocrates said "let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" — he was truly right. Food is a neutral healer in so many different ways.
That said, I am obsessed with turmeric. It is one of the best natural anti-inflammatory’s that mother nature created for us. Since I am half Persian, turmeric was a spice and flavor I was always very familiar with and fond of. But I never really thought to put it in my drinks other than tea. I gave it a try this morning and the result was a seriously delicious smoothie.
1/2 cup of mango
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp chia seeds
Optional: 1/2 cup of water or raw coconut water
In a blender, add the banana, persimmon, date, mango, turmeric, cinnamon and chia seeds. Blend until smooth. For a less thick consistency, add water or coconut water.
