I really did decide to write a post about what I consider to be the best coconut yogurt in NYC. Why not? The obsession with coconut everything is at an all time high, and because coconut yogurt is not available in Switzerland (yet!) I decided to try every brand I could get my hands on during my stay in New York. It's so heathy, so no guilty feelings here. A few months ago, I ventured to Whole Foods in London and tried the COYO brand of coconut yogurt - and it was beyond delicious, that I put a couple of the jars on ice and brought them back to Geneva with me.
As the dairy-free and lactose-free craze continues to influence the awareness in kitchens and markets all around the world, more alternatives of everything you can think of that contains dairy, is gaining a dairy/lactose-free substitute. It's brilliant. People all over the world that have dairy and lactose allergies, or even those that choose to avoid dairy/lactose for personal health reasons can still enjoy their morning cup of yogurt full of probiotics that support gut health. I used to eat a ton of yogurt until I developed digestive issues, and then chose to eliminate dairy from my diet. It truly was not so difficult, even though I do love thick, Greek yogurt and smelly cheese. The only yogurt or milk replacements that were available even just a few years ago were mostly made of soy products, which I avoid altogether. The mass productions of almond and other nut milks is quite recent, but it took a while to find any type of good yogurt replacement.
When I lived in NYC, I used to eat the coconut yogurt from Organic Avenue quite often, but over the past few months, I read about a bunch of other brands of this amazing coconut-ty goodness - so I decided to try them all!
