A ONE DAY DETOX
April 30, 2015

I've done a lot of juice cleanses in the past. So many I can't even count. I even got my husband to do a 3-day juice cleanse with me once, which resulted in the "never doing this again," phrase. It's not awful, it's just not fun. I love juices, I drink my go to green juice or red juice every day. I think they're actually very healthy, when a majority of the juice comes from vegetables, not from fruit. The 3-day cleanse (or even 7, 9 and 21 -- can't imagine how angry I'd be!) was such trendy thing to do when I was living in New York (and even in LA), that every juice bar you could think of was selling them. And how they were selling them. It became the go-to thing to do when you overindulged over a weekend or just needed a "reset." What I came to realize, after doing these so many times, and not really seeing the benefits, is that simply eating a clean diet is going to constantly keep your body detoxing itself. Juices don't need to do that for you.
Our bodies are machines, and they were built to make us thrive, sans juice cleanse! I luckily never dieted in my life or needed to lose a pound, but the juice cleanse craze definitely got the best of me. People started doing them to lose a few pounds without realizing that they will gain them right back after eating solids again. This brings me to the one day detox I did from the delicious restaurant I Feel Bio.
My husband and I did the one day detox (with food!) It was so good and filling, and it's mostly how we eat to begin with, so it wasn't difficult to do, at all. The morning started with a yummy green juice which is made of apples and wheatgrass. I LOVE the taste of wheatgrass and not to mention how healthy it is for our bodies. Wheatgrass is full of Vitamin A, B, C, E, magnesium, potassium, and is a complete source of vegeterian protein. It's a powerful detoxifier as it neutralizes the toxins in our bodies.
After the juice, you drink a creamy and delicious smoothie made of bilberry, acai, almond milk and fresh mint. Lunch consisted of a raw vegetable tartare made of a ton of different veggies chopped very finely with avocado and served with raw flax seed crackers. YUM. Dessert (because that can be good for you too!) was a little minestrone of cooked pears. I was not too full, neither was my husband, and we were excited to see what was in store for dinner. We had a very refreshing fennel salad with sliced oranges, raisins and a light lemony dressing; a carrot soup made with coconut milk and ginger, and dessert was a vegan panna cotta with a red fruit sauce. Needless to say, the cleanse was delicious. It didn't even feel like we were on a cleanse. But knowing that you are putting such healthy foods into your body makes you feel like you are naturally detoxing, and you are. One important thing to note is that you should drink a ton of water whenever you cleanse (and simply because it's so healthy for you). It's actually the number one way to naturally detox your body. Luckily, with this clenase came about 1/2 gallon of water infused with fennel, anise and cumin - which is super good and healthy. Fennel and anise are a great way to help you naturally de-bloat!
My suggestion is to do a cleanse with a friend or a loved one, sometimes its much easier to "detox" with someone for that extra dose of motivation.
