BABY FOOD: MAMA & BABY FRIENDLY GREEN SMOOTHIE

Green smoothies...so synonymous with, me! If you scroll through my instagram, you will see that I have green smoothies, especially in the warmer months, almost every morning. How could I not share the love I have for putting millions of things and greens in my smoothies with my twins? Lucky for me, they loved it. As I wrote in my last post, it is important when you start out feeding your baby or babies to start out with one food at a time. It's the best way to see if they have any allergic reactions to the food, and show you if they like it or not. We have been super lucky that our twins have liked every single food that they have tried, whether eaten alone or mixed; they have not spit out anything, and sometimes even cry for me! #blessed

Once the babies tried all the fruits and veggies I could find in the market, I started combining foods. One morning as I was blending a green smoothie for myself, I figured I should give some of it to the twins as well. Obviously I put tons of delicious superfoods in my smoothies, but as the babies are too young for most of these foods, I simply made them a green smoothie with spinach, banana, avocado and coconut oil. Almost all babies love the sweet taste of bananas, and they are one of the few foods that does not need to be steamed (avocados as well). However, I did steam the spinach for a few minutes, as I'm not keen on giving them any raw foods just yet. Avocados are one of the best and healthiest foods for babies as they are full of healthy fats, so important for their brain and physical development. Avocados are full of fiber (vvvv important), fiber, magnesium and lots of vitamins - they're like nature's butter, taste delicious, and add a wonderful creamy texture to smoothies. My babies also love pear, it's definitely their favorite fruit, so steamed pear would make an amazing alternative to banana in this smoothie, or just add it in as well! And as per usual, I add in coconut oil or olive oil to everything I make for the babies as it's also full of good fats, lauric acid which aids in digestion, (also found in breast milk!) and is just so delicious.

    Serves: 2

    Ingredients:

1 banana or pear (or both)!

    1 handful spinach, lightly steamed

    1/2 avocado

1-2 oz breast milk, formula or water

    1 tsp coconut oil

    Directions:

Lightly steam spinach. Place all ingredients in a blender or BabyCook and blend under completely smooth.
